Fred Wilhelm, Nicole Witt and Billy Montana will join forces Saturday March 17, 2012 at Concord Community Church of the Nazarene in Brentwood, TN to perform a show that raises funds for the church's youth ministry programs. The public is invited and encouraged to attend. The church is located at 9826 Concord Road and show time is 7:00PM.
Saturday's songwriter round marks the 6th year for the annual event that has become the church's youth group's biggest fundraiser. As in years past, the sanctuary will be set up coffeehouse-style. Coffee, tea, lemonade and homemade desserts will be served and are included in the ticket price of $10 in advance and $12 at the door.
Fred Wilhelm is a songwriter/singer originally from New England. He grew up on a family farm where his duties included feeding the chickens and carting out a wheelbarrow of cow manure every day before school.
His songs have been recorded by a number of multi-platinum country superstars including Faith Hill, Rascal Flatts, Trace Adkins, Tracy Lawrence, Randy Travis, Little Big Town, and The Oak Ridge Boys among others. A number of much beloved Americana artists have also recorded songs written with Fred including Mindy Smith, Lori McKenna, Mary Gauthier, Mountain Heart and Catie Curtis. His song “Big Sky” as recorded by the gospel Bluegrass group The Isaacs was the #1 inspirational country song in October of 2007.
Recently his song “Why Wait For Summer” was a top forty country radio single for Capitol artist Walker Hayes. His song “Two Soldiers” is featured in the soundtrack to the soon to be released film “Act Of Valor”
When it comes to the art of a song, Nicole Witt is a Renaissance woman. The nationally-touring, award-winning Nashville songwriter and multi-instrumentalist is known for the soaring melodies and clever turns of phrase that have brought her national acclaim in the bluegrass, country, alt country and Christian music scenes. With a voice that’s part Adele, part Shelby Lynn and part Trisha Yearwood, she conveys a level of emotion and sincerity scarce in modern music. Whether she’s behind a piano or upfront with her guitar or fiddle, Witt delivers live performances led by that gorgeous voice, and anchored by her charm. She has released five full-length albums.
Music is in her blood. Witt’s father was a square dancer on the famed Ozark Jubliee television program. Her grandparents were both bluegrass musicians – a full-circle moment she noted when she found herself under the spotlight at the Ryman Auditorium in the fall of 2011, accepting the International Bluegrass Music Association Award for Song of the Year for Balsam Range’s version of “Trains I Missed” (Godard/Wilkins/Witt). That same month, her songs were at the forefront of country music with a cut on American Idol runner-up Lauren Alania’s Wildflower album and her “Heart of A Hero” a focal point of Steve Holy’s latest CD.
