I just came in from the pool area of the Green Valley Resort in Las Vegas. I'm part of a songwriter show featuring Aaron Benward, Brian McComas and Regie Hamm. We opened up this little west coast swing with a show in Reno the night before last, and we're having a really good time! Really looking forward to tonight's show!
It's been a busy week on the road that started last Saturday when I travelled to East Tennessee for a writing retreat and show at Blackberry Farm, a 5-star resort in the foothills of the Smokey Mountains! It was too cold to do anything except sit by a fire and try to come up with hit song ideas! I got to do some writing with Curb Records recording artist Lee Brice, Grand Ol' Opry star Bill Anderson ("Whiskey Lullaby" for Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss and "Give It Away" for George Strait), Capital Records recording artist Kelleigh Bannen, and fellow Curb Publishing writers Bobby Tomberlin ("One More Day" for Diamond Rio and Good Day To Run" for Darryl Worley) and Joe Leathers ("Still" for Tim McGraw, "Tough" for Craig Morgan, "Hemingway's Whiskey" for Kenny Chesney.) It was an amazing time and we brought down some good songs!
A special treat was hanging with Senator Lamar Alexander. He was observing the songwriting process and learning about the inner-workings of the music business. Turns out he's an excellent pianist himself, and has a great love of music in general.
It's been a great run, but I'll look forward to making it home tomorrow!
